Dear Livada Partners, For us to take orphans that live in state care to camp, we have to get approval each year from the local Child Protective Services in Romania. Traditionally CPS finds some element of our official written request, submitted at least one month prior, that they want to change right before camp is about to begin. This year is no exception. Vio, our director, was told today that CPS does not want to approve our current request for hundreds of orphans to come to our camp for the following reasons:
1) "A 45 minute bus ride is too much for the kids. They would vomit on the way. You will need to find a venue that is closer." 2) "Picnic food is not good enough. It will constipate the kids. You should consider taking them to a restaurant each day for hot meals." 3) "Campfires and waterparks are too dangerous for the kids."
All of the plans for memory making horseback riding lessons, water games including a 60 foot custom built slip-n-slide, gift bags filled with humanitarian aid, hikes in the hills of camp, hilarious team games, and of course creative Gospel lessons are now thrown up in the air.
Bex has been working tirelessly with our Romanian staff to get literally thousands of details together for this summer. What CPS did today was the equivalent of taking the bottom row out of our Jenga tower of blocks forcing us to come up with a new set of thousands of details- budget, transport, program, team schedules, meals, etc.... for the hundreds of people involved.
Tomorrow, Vio and Bex will meet with CPS officials again to try to get a "Plan B" approved and officially stamped by them. (The stamp is more important than life!) Please pray with us that CPS would approve the plan B, that we would accept that as God's plan A, and that God would make Himself known to all of the orphans, at-risk kids, volunteers, and especially to the leadership of CPS Mures County Romania.
Thank you for participating with us in sharing the love of Christ with kids like Tunde pictured above.
For Fruit That Will Last,
Bruce and the Livada Orphan Care Staff

I'm fairly sure that this teen summer camp will soon be approved. Lots of kids are looking forward to this camp. Goodluck!
